This document in no way challenges the quality of the Companion. The result is a sturdy, high quality hitch with a superb safety record. We also championed the ability to have a rail-free bed when not towing, with a single point attachment to the mounting system. We did that by offering a truly versatile hitch that has many desirable features including jaws that tightly fit the king, and a coupler that is cushioned and pivots in four directions. When the Companion was engineered, the goal was to raise the bar in the 5th Wheel Hitch industry. Any product that prevents the king pin from rotating within the jaws of the Companion with a wedge or other device and moves the center of rotation to a point other than the locking jaws should not be used with the Companion. Therefore, we strongly discourage the use of our Companion 5th Wheel Hitch with one of these pin boxes. We are concerened that moving the pivot point rearward as much as 20 inches puts stress on the hitch (and the truck) that has not been widely studied. It is our opinion that this configuration creates stress loads that fall outside the normal testing done on 5th wheel hitches. This product replaces the pin box on a 5th wheel trailer and changes the pivot point from the hitch jaws to a point rearward of the hitch. We have been made aware of a product that is of special concern. Doing so will void our warranty, but more importantly, could create a safety issue. As a rule of thumb, we do not recommend any products that is used in conjuction with our mounting system that has not been manufactured and tested by B&W, even if that product states it can be used with B&W products. Because of our commitment to exceptional design and quality, we often see products on the market that refer to B&W products or state that they can be used with B&W products. He also has a 303.At B&W, there is nothing more important to us than the safety of our customers. Cate&Rob will likely also chime in about having the trailer back on the F350 to give extra tailgate clearance which the B&W will also help with. I think the offset ball would be the best option unless you go with a slider hitch. I will say that if you go with the Companion system for the factory puck it can give you up to 4" back for clearance. It provides lots of options for clearance adjustment that I know my Ram factory setup doesn't. I am now at 5" and am thinking of going to 3" because I still have lots of clearance. I never had a 5th wheel either so I was overly cautious. I started out 7" behind the gooseneck ball to pull my Solitude. I am using the companion 5th wheel hitch for it because it allow me to adjust for turning radius. Is the B&W offset gooseneck ball option a big concern when it comes to turning radius? Are their other considerations I am missing between the 2 options?I personally really like the B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch. HOWEVER, I like the option of the offset gooseneck ball on the B&W. If we eventually return to a traditional 5 th wheel hitch, it appears the Ford package offers more options. I am torn between adding the Ford 5h wheel gooseneck hitch prep package or something like the B&W turnoverball gooseneck hitch. This will be our first 5 th wheel and will utilize the Reese Goosebox. The intention is to eventually purchase a GD Reflection 303RLS. When the order was placed in March, the Ford fifth wheel prep was an issue so it was not included. I have a 2022 F350 Lariat (SRW, short bed, diesel) due to be delivered in Sept.
